Enjoy snowshoeing (skiing or hiking if conditions permit) by the light of the moon, with candle luminaries to help guide the way. Three separate routes are lit for this popular annual event.
A 2 1/2- mile trail between the trail center and the interpretive center is suitable for beginner-level skiers of all ages. A shuttle bus will run continuously between the two locations. Ski rental ($10/day for skis, boots and poles) is available at the Park Office on a first-come, first-served basis. A Minnesota Ski Pass is required for all skiers over 16 years of age.
Two separate 1/2-mile snowshoeing trails will start at the Interpretive Center, where traditional snowshoes will be offered free of charge for those who wish to try the candlelit trails. Snowshoe rental is also available at the Park Office.
After exploring the trails, visitors can warm up around a crackling fire while they enjoy hot cider and cookies at the Interpretive Center. Live music from 7 to 9 p.m. by Hans Blix and the Weapons Inspectors.
Note that severe weather or poor snow conditions may cause this event to be changed or canceled. For updates, call 320-532-3269 or check the visitor alert online at www.mndnr.gov/millelacskathio.
