Eddy’s Resort has long been one of Minnesota’s most underrated autumn destinations. As the air crisps and cools while the leaves turn color around the lake, very few places can match the surrounding area’s beauty. Thankfully, this region offers an abundance of outdoor activities to make the season even more enjoyable. Check our latest recommendations below!
Traverse the Scenic Byway
Want the essential fall colors experience? Take a drive along the Lake Mille Lacs Scenic Byway. It loops around the lake and includes highways 169, 27, 18, and 47. There are plenty of gorgeous stops and attractions along the way, from birding to picnicking and beyond. It’s an absolute must-see.
Enjoy treats and games at the Great Pumpkin Festival
Just a quick 35-minute drive from Eddy’s, the 15th annual Great Pumpkin Festival is the perfect fall outing for friends and families alike. Participate in pumpkin rolling races, feast on chili and walking tacos, join in on a pumpkin hunt, and ride horses through Gregory Park.
Saturday, October 15, in Brainerd, Minnesota. For more information: www.ci.brainerd.mn.us/339/Great-Pumpkin-Festival
See the works of local artists at the Fall Arts & Crafts Festival
Is there anything cozier than arts and crafts in the fall time? Check out art from dozens of local artists, painters, and crafters, or participate in free art workshops.
Friday, October 14, in Brainerd, Minnesota. Stay tuned for a more detailed itinerary closer to the event date: https://www.exploreminnesota.com/event/fall-arts-craft-festival/31140
Take in jaw-dropping panoramic views from an iconic fire tower
Want the end-all-be-all Instagram pic? Climb the 100-foot observation tower at Mille Lacs Kathio State Park. It sits on one of the highest hills of Mille Lacs Moraine, an ancient glacial ridge. When you get to the top of the tower, you’ll have the most cinematic bird’s-eye views of the fall colors.
Learn about wild ricing, maple sugar processing, and birch bark basketry
We highly suggest an afternoon at the Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post. We love their crafts room and outdoor program area. You can participate in or view demonstrations for beadwork, basswood dying, embroidery, cooking, canoe building, and more.
